The requirements below were researched against the official sources linked at the bottom of this page and are pending final verification. Always confirm against the current official posting.

Oakville recruits through the OFAI Candidate Testing Services pipeline: Stage One (an expired valid certificate is accepted), Stage Two (hearing, vision, encapsulated treadmill), and Stage Three (FPAT and the Firefighter Technical Skills Assessment) must all be complete, with Stages Two and Three current at the posting closing date. A swim certificate (Lifesaving Society Canadian Swim to Survive Standard or the OFAI swim test) is required, and applicants must also pass an Oakville Fire Department administered swim test before an offer. Standard First Aid must stay current from application through the process. NFPA 1001 certification is not listed among the required certifications; new hires complete the Oakville Fire Service Recruit Program during a 12-month probationary period. The most recent recruitment closed October 20, 2025.

Entry-level hiring with no fire certifications required. The department trains recruits in-house. Medical certifications and driver licensing are the differentiators.
