Kitchener hires pre-certified firefighters: you must be a graduate of a pre-service Firefighter Education and Training Program or hold NFPA 1001 Firefighter I and II, and you must have completed all three stages of the OFAI Candidate Testing Service before applying. A valid First Aid and CPR certificate (Level C Standard) and an outstanding employment record round out the qualifying list. If hired, you must supply proof of a valid Class DZ licence and a satisfactory police records check including Vulnerable Sector Screening. Postings appear on the City's job opportunities page when the department is hiring.

NFPA 1001 Firefighter I and II plus HazMat Operations are required before applying. Budget for fire school before you can compete.

  • The DZ licence and police records check are proof-of-hire conditions rather than application requirements.
