The fire and emergency services page states: "The firefighter recruitment campaign is now closed", and offers a sign-up form for updates. A promotional tile directly above that sentence still reads "Applications For Firefighter Role Now Open"; the sentence is the department's actual position.

A summary of this record. The full detail is below, and the official posting governs.

Brampton hires pre-certified firefighters through the OFAI Candidate Testing Services stream: at the time of application you need NFPA 1001 Firefighter I and II (or a grandfathering equivalent), OFAI Candidate Testing Program Stage Two completed and Stage Three (expired certificates acceptable), a Grade 12 OSSD or Ontario approved equivalent, and valid First Aid with CPR Level C. An Ontario DZ licence is required, or must be obtained no later than six months from the date of hire, with a clean driver's abstract valid within three months of hire. The seven-step process runs from online application through structured behavioural interviews and pre-employment checks to an offer, including an 18-month conditional offer path for candidates still completing technical certifications.

NFPA 1001 Firefighter I and II plus HazMat Operations are required before applying. Budget for fire school before you can compete.

The hiring process

Worth knowing

  • Probation is 12 months.
  • Shifts are 24 hours on a 28-day rotation, averaging 42 hours per week.
  • An 18-month conditional offer path lets applicants with diverse skills complete technical certifications after hiring.
  • OFAI testing is sequential, so a completed Stage Two certificate means Stage One (FACT) was passed first; copies of OFAI Stage 2 and 3 certificates and NFPA 1001 I and II certificates must be uploaded at time of application.
  • OFAI fees per attempt: Stage One FACT $75, Stage Two hearing $50, Stage Two encapsulated treadmill $110 (vision assessment billed by your optometrist), Stage Three FPAT $212, Stage Three technical skills $270, HST additional. Stage One and Stage Two hearing and vision are valid 2 years, the treadmill 6 months, Stage Three FPAT and technical skills 1 year.
  • The firefighter recruitment campaign was closed as of July 2026; postings appear at brampton.ca/firerecruit.
