TKT questions, answered

What is Edmonton's Threshold Knowledge Test?

The TKT is Edmonton Fire Rescue Services' written exam on fire service fundamentals at the level of the Essentials of Fire Fighting curriculum. Candidates sit it before recruit class, so it tests fire knowledge rather than general aptitude.

What does the TKT cover?

EFRS does not publish the exact paper. Essentials-based recruit exams draw consistently from fire behaviour and building construction, PPE and SCBA, water supply and hose work, ladders and ventilation, search and rescue, extinguishers and hand tools, and suppression fundamentals. Semparo's simulator weights its chapters accordingly.

What is the pass mark on the TKT?

EFRS does not publish one. Semparo's simulator reports against the 80 percent standard common to recruit examinations, so you prepare to a defensible bar instead of a rumour.

How does Semparo's TKT simulator work?

Fifty questions per sitting, chapter-weighted and timed to 60 minutes, drawn fresh each time from a 650-question original fire knowledge bank. Results are scored by section so you can see exactly which chapters need work before test day.

Is Semparo affiliated with Edmonton Fire Rescue Services?

No. Semparo is not affiliated with or endorsed by EFRS or any fire department. The simulator is honest about what it is: original questions aligned to the published curriculum level, not a copy of any real paper.
