Fire Express and PSSA questions, answered

What is the NTN Fire Express Exam?

Fire Express is a general firefighter aptitude exam delivered through a National Testing Network (NTN) account. Calgary's current candidate materials name it, along with the two-part Public Safety Self-Assessment (PSSA). The public City of Calgary careers page confirms NTN as the aptitude vendor and describes a two-part online exam. General firefighter aptitude covers judgment and human relations, mechanical reasoning, math, and reading.

What is the PSSA, and can I study for it?

The Public Safety Self-Assessment is a two-part self-assessment run through NTN. You read statements and rate how much you agree or disagree, and you make judgments about situations. There is nothing to revise for the self-report part: the honest answer is the right one, and trying to fake a profile is a liability when integrity is checked again later. Our familiarisation walkthrough is unscored and only shows you how to read agreement scales carefully and answer as your typical self.

How is this Fire Express practice built?

Every question is Semparo's original work, written from public competency descriptions, including the City of Calgary's published aptitude study guide and NTN's public firefighter testing description. Nothing is copied from any exam. The section mix and weighting are a Semparo instructional balance, because the official Fire Express composition and weighting are not published.

Does Calgary really use Fire Express?

Calgary's Step 2 candidate materials and its public careers page point to NTN. A study guide still hosted on the City site describes an older aptitude test, which is a reminder that departments change vendors. Always confirm the current test named on your own intake before you build a study plan around it.

Is Semparo affiliated with NTN or Calgary?

No. Semparo is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the National Testing Network, the City of Calgary, the Calgary Fire Department, or any assessment provider. The official posting always governs.
