West Vancouver recruits through the joint North Shore tri-municipal process with the City and District of North Vancouver, run once per year through northshorefirerecruiting.ca. Applicants need NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level 2 with a Pro Board or IFSAC seal, high school graduation plus a year of post-secondary or full-time work experience, a BC Class 3 or higher licence with air brake at application, current First Responder certification, and a pass on the Langara, University of Alberta, or University of Victoria fitness test. After a combined online assessment, each municipality shortlists independently for station orientations and Fire Chief panel interviews.

NFPA 1001 Firefighter I and II plus HazMat Operations are required before applying. Budget for fire school before you can compete.
