The hiring process

Strathcona County hires Firefighter/Paramedics on a paramedic-first model, so you must already be a Registered Advanced Care Paramedic or Registered Primary Care Paramedic with the Alberta College of Paramedics when you apply. Components include multiple choice, long and short answer questions, a medical scenario with a simulator, a history-taking scenario, and pharmacology relevant to your registration.
The county says this stage is not pass or fail. It shows the panel how you approach calls, manage stress, and diagnose within your scope of practice, so a calm, systematic performance counts as much as the right answer.
Run the stations like real calls. Verbalize your scene assessment, primary and secondary surveys, differentials, and treatment plan out loud, because examiners can only credit what they hear.

The interview is competency-based, with departmental representatives and Human Resources on the panel.
