The hiring process

Recruitment is currently closed. The city states that when a competition opens, the posting appears on its careers page, so check it regularly and apply only through the city's online careers portal. The city does not accept resumes in person, by fax, by email or by mail.
Pick your stream honestly. Schedule A, the firefighter-paramedic track, requires current ACP or PCP registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics, with proof of registration submitted at application. Schedule B is a rare firefighter-mechanic track for certified journeypersons in Heavy Equipment Technician or Automotive Service Technician.
You must meet the minimum qualifications on the day you submit. That means a valid Class 5 licence and a driving abstract with no more than six demerit points. NFPA 1001 Firefighter I and II is not a barrier at this stage because the city allows it to be earned within one year of hire.
If you are a paramedic registered outside Alberta, provisional registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics through a Labour Mobility application may be considered at application, but do not wait to start that process.
