How to become a firefighter in Saskatoon
Saskatoon stacks fire certification and paramedic licensing together, one of the heaviest requirement loads in the country: an IFSAC or ProBoard certificate covering NFPA 1001 I and II plus NFPA 1002 Apparatus Driver/Operator (Pumper), and registration as a practicing unrestricted Primary Care Paramedic on the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics roster, with current ITLS Basic. The department hires exclusively from IFSAC/ProBoard-accredited schools, and the York Firefighter Applicant Fitness Assessment must be current within 6 months of the start date.
A paramedic licence is the core requirement, with fire certifications stacked on top or trained after hire.
