The requirements below were researched against the official sources linked at the bottom of this page and are pending final verification. Always confirm against the current official posting.

Red Deer hires FireMedics on a paramedic-first model: applicants need a certificate to practice pre-hospital care at the Advanced Life Support level (EMT-P) and the ability to register as a Paramedic with the Alberta College of Paramedics. A Class 3 and 4 licence with air brake (Q) endorsement is required, valid with fewer than 5 demerits and no suspensions in the last 2 years. Candidates must pass a written aptitude test, an oral interview, and a seven-station physical test delivered through Red Deer Polytechnic or the University of Alberta, and must be willing to live within 24 kilometres of the city. Previous NFPA 1001 training is listed as desirable rather than required.

A paramedic licence is the core requirement, with fire certifications stacked on top or trained after hire.
