Mississauga hires pre-certified firefighters: NFPA 1001 Firefighter I and II and NFPA 1072 (472) Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations with Pro Board or IFSAC proof are required before the application is submitted, along with an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, a valid and unrestricted Ontario Class D licence with Z endorsement, and current Standard First Aid with CPR C (or BLS/HCP or higher). The six-stage process includes a non-refundable application fee of $150 plus tax and an assessment phase covering practical, behavioural, fitness (at York University), swimming, cognitive, and medical testing, with roughly $500 in additional candidate costs. Successful candidates complete a seventeen-week probationary firefighter training program and a twelve-month probation.
