How to become a firefighter in Lethbridge

Lethbridge hires on a paramedic-first model. Recruits are hired as Paramedic Firefighters into the Dedicated EMS Division, with the opportunity to transition to the Integrated Fire-EMS Division after completing a fire academy. Applicants must be registered as an Advanced Care Paramedic or Primary Care Paramedic, with preference given to ACPs. A minimum Alberta Class 4 licence is required by the start date, and a Class 3 with Q (air brake) endorsement must be obtained before starting fire academy. Proof of a successful F.A.R.E. fitness test within 6 months of the posting close is required, along with a police information check with vulnerable sector search dated within 3 months of the closing date.
A paramedic licence is the core requirement, with fire certifications stacked on top or trained after hire.
