Grande Prairie hires pre-certified firefighters: NFPA 1001 Level 2 certification including NFPA 472 Awareness and Operations from an IFSAC or ProBoard approved institution, an 80-hour medical training program (an approved EMR course, valid Advanced First Aid, or an 80-hour MFR certificate), a Class 3 and 4 Alberta licence with air brake (Q) endorsement, and a high school diploma or equivalency. ACP registration is not required. The eight-step selection process includes aptitude testing, an online interview, two days of fitness and job-specific testing with a swim test, a focused panel interview, a one-day station ride-along, and a conditional offer contingent on a criminal record check, medical assessment, and psychological evaluation.

NFPA 1001 Firefighter I and II plus HazMat Operations are required before applying. Budget for fire school before you can compete.
